English National Surfing Championships

The English National Surfing Championships will see the next generation of young surfers battle to knock established competitors off the top spot over three divisions, the UK’s top surfers will gather at Watergate Bay on the bank holiday weekend from Saturday 30 April to Monday 2 May to compete for national titles.

The annual event is organised by Surf and Science Technology students from Cornwall College’s Newquay campus and is firmly established on the English surfing calendar. 

The competition is spread across 14 divisions including Open, Longboard, Masters, Veterans, Ladies and Juniors.

Watergate Bay English Surfing Championships

Last year, Adam ‘Bearman’ Griffiths successfully defended his title as Longboard Champion against the talented semi-final winner, Ben ‘Skindog’ Skinner, Sam Bleakley and Ben Haworth in 6ft surf. Emily Currie continued her weekend of success with a decisive win in the Disco Bead’s Women’s Final.

In the final, Jobe Harriss was crowned winner of the Sharps Men’s Open, after knocking last year’s champion, Jayce Robinson out of the semi-final. And Watergate Bay local, Mark ‘Egor’ Harris, took the runner up place.
